What’s Best About The Franklin Building?
“The Franklin Building offers residents authentic loft living in close proximity to everything that makes Chicago a world-class city.”
Constructed in 1916, The Franklin Building is a 14-story brick building on Chicago’s historic Printer’s Row landmark district. Located at 720 South Dearborn Street the building is an example of Chicago School architecture and was designed by George C. Nimmons for the Franklin Printing Company. In 1989, the building was converted to 65 loft condo apartments.
Authentic lofts
For those who appreciate authenticity, The Franklin is the real deal. In addition to high ceilings, exposed brick, massive concrete pillars and real hardwood floors, the building entrance makes a spectacular first impression.
Oskar Gross, of Vienna Austria, painted the dramatic and colorful mural over the main entrance. It is entitled “The First Impression” and depicts men working on a Gutenberg press, printing the first edition of the Gutenberg Bible. Plus, he painted various tiles for the building including those depicting an artist, engraver, typesetter and bookbinder.
The parapet atop the building features gorgeous polychrome terra cotta tiles with the inscription: “The excellence of every art must consist in the complete accomplishment of its purpose.”
Super convenient location
The Franklin Building offers residents a convenient location near transportation and everything that makes Chicago awesome.
With the CTA Blue Line, Red Line, I-290, 90/94 and Lakeshore Drive all nearby, getting around the city couldn’t be easier. Moreover, from here it’s a short walk to the Lake, Museums, Grant Park and Printer’s Row restaurants. Plus, shopping is made easy with Trader Joe’s and Target nearby.
