What’s Best About Metropolitan Place Condos?
“Metropolitan Place Condos at 130 S Canal Street was originally the Florsheim Shoe Company. Today, it is one of Chicago’s most conveniently located loft condo buildings.”
Let’s take a closer look…
Original Chicago Florsheim Shoe Company
Going condo in 1998, the Florsheim Shoe Company building was one of the first factories in the West Loop to be converted to condos.
Residents have said that since it was early in the factory-to-condo conversion process, everything was done really well. Through the conversion the building also maintained much of the original sleek design.
The description of the original building found in an article from the time describes the vibe of the building well:
“With its unbroken horizontal tiers of grey brick curtain walls which ’seem to float in thin air’, acres of glass their only visible means of support, the new home of The Florsheim Shoe Company in Chicago might be called an industrial dream home”.
Also appealing is the horseshoe shape of the building. It was designed to allow as much natural light in as possible. And today residents benefit from that original design feature as these condos have a bright an airy feel.
The original building was not as tall as the current structure. Floors 7-10 were added when the building went condo. And on these floors the walls go all the way to the ceiling, the rooms have doors and the ductwork is not exposed. The original lower floors are more ‘loft style’ with exposed ductwork.
Also note that floors 2-8 are all single floor units. Floors 9-10 have a combination of two-story units, double-wide units and single-story units.
Super Convenient Location
Metropolitan Place Condos are located at 130 S Canal Street in the eastern section of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood.
The convenience of being close to the Loop and literally all transportation options makes this one of Chicago’s most convenient condo locations.
For instance, Union Station is just across the street. Plus Ogilvie Transportation Center and the CTA Clinton Blue Line are steps away. Moreover, the Chicago Water Taxi (Riverside Plaza) is also an option for you. And if you drive you’ll appreciate the easy access to 90/94/290.
From here it’s just a quick walk to Downtown / Loop / Financial District to the east and all the amazing West Loop restaurants to the west.
Here you’ll enjoy endless entertainment and dining options blocks away. Specifically, the Chicago Riverwalk, Randolph “Restaurant Row” and the Madison Street Corridor.
Skinner and Mary Bartelme Park are also easily accessed.
Plus, the building is located within the Skinner School District. Skinner is ranked as one of Chicago’s best schools.
And shopping is made easy as well with Whole Foods, Marianos, and Jewel nearby. There’s even a CVS, Starbucks and cleaners right in the building.
One other valuable feature is that the building is investor friendly with no rental cap.
To conclude, Metropolitan Place offers residents a storied history, unsurpassed convenience and the perfect place to enjoy Chicago living.
