“The building has a stately elegance to it and the loft style units with exposed brickwork and unique variety of layouts just add to the cool factor.

When I wrap up showings in the building, it always makes me smile to see tourists reading the Historic Register plaque and snapping photos of the high gated entrance. I’m sure they are wondering who lives there and what it looks like inside.

If you are in the market for a South Loop loft condo, add this building to the search. It is amazing!”

Let’s take a deeper look at what makes Trevi Square Lofts one of Chicago’s best…

Famous patients

The building was constructed in 1907-1908 as a part of Saint Luke’s Hospital Annex. It was designed by Architect Charles Frost in the Gothic Revival style and was intended to serve wealthy residents in the nearby Prairie District.

Back in the day, St. Luke’s had luxurious hospital rooms featuring high ceilings, fireplaces and of course great views.

So it’s not surprising that the hospital reportedly treated many prominent Chicagoans. Namely, Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard J. Daley.

In 1995, after sitting vacant for over 20 years, it was converted into 69 loft condos. Today the building still retains intricate Gothic Revival brick and stonework and many of the same features that made it the go-to hospital for prominent Chicagoans of yesteryear. Plus, these days it has a landscaped courtyard and a vintage fountain albeit not quite the size of its baroque namesake in Rome.

A loft building for loft lovers

Given this history, these historic single level and duplex lofts offer impeccable architectural features that true loft lovers seek.

Look at lofts here and you’ll find rich exposed brick walls, angled hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplaces (a rarity!), massive windows and large balconies. Plus the ceiling heights really soar! They range from 15 feet on the first floor to 20 feet on the 6th floor. Ceilings are 11 feet on the other floors.

Plus, most units have large private balconies with city and lake views.

Of course in real estate, a building with all  these authentic loft features and interesting history is nothing without a great location.

Fortunately, 1439 S Michigan Ave has a premier location in the heart of the South Loop. Thus residents of Trevi Square Lofts have easy access to everything that makes Chicago a world-class city.
